Role Overview:

Could you be our next AVP Assistant Controller? Globe Life is looking for an AVP Assistant Controller to join the team!

 

In this role, you will be responsible for ensuring that all financial information is accurately recorded in the proper period in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles and statutory accounting principles while meeting the required deadlines. Manage and direct the Financial Reporting and provide leadership in the accomplishment of the company and departmental goals.

 

This is a hybrid position located in McKinney, TX (WFH Monday & Friday, In Office Tuesday-Thursday).

 

What You Will Do:

  • Monitor cash requirements and coordinate with cash management.
  • Coordinate the payment of premium taxes and various state fees.
  • Work together with other departments to resolve any accounting/reporting related issues.
  • Ensure Financial Reporting positions are adequately staffed each day and department functions and responsibilities are completed.
  • Provide senior management with information, as requested.
  • Communicate with other department managers, officers of United American, Globe and Liberty National, and senior management at on a variety of business-related items.
  • Communicates with state insurance departments as well as the state tax departments on a variety of financing reporting issues.
  • Complete /or review month-end close process, including entry preparation.
  • Complete reviews of accounts to determine if there are any necessary corrections.
  • Prepare monthly deferred expense schedules for the Actuarial department to use in calculating period-end journal entries.
  • Record GAAP, Consolidated and Statutory journal entries.
  • Preparation of subsidiary financial statement files for review.
  • Coordinate the payment of various monthly intercompany billings.
  • Preparation of surveys for the rating companies either quarterly or annual basis (AM Best, Standard & Poors & Weiss).
  • Prepare the Statutory Basis Financial Statements.
  • Review monthly GAAP financials or files prepared by Senior Accountant.
  • Prepare operating results for senior management.
  • Review all operating and analysis reports.
  • Ensure compliance with SOX/COSO reporting requirements.
  • Review quarterly Statutory Statement sent to various states.
  • Prepare ad hoc reports as requested by CFO or Controller.
  • Review/Approve annual Statutory Statements.
  • Coordinate year-end audits (GAAP & Statutory) with independent auditors.

 

What You Can Bring:

  • 7 – 10 years in managerial accounting with increasing responsibility.
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, or related field.
  • Current CPA, highly preferred.
  • Working experience in the Life Insurance industry, required.
  • Familiar with Statutory and GAAP accounting and reporting.
  • Extensive financial reporting and analytical skills.
  • MS Office, Lawson.
  • Workday experience, a plus.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Detailed analytical & organizational skills.
  • Collaborates and partners well with roles across all levels of the organization.
  • Able to exercise strong decision and judgement.
  • Self-starter.

Savings and Investment Plan (401K) - Eligible employees may begin participating in the plan on the first day of employment.

Pension Plan - Eligible employees who complete one year of service with the Company become participants in the Pension.* (Not available to Cleveland Employees)

Medical - Benefits are available to all eligible employees and qualified dependents the first of the month following 30 days of continuous service.

Dental** and Vision - Eligible employees and qualified dependents are able to enroll the first of the month following 30 days of continuous service.

Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA) - Our FSA has two components, Health Care and Dependent Care Accounts. These accounts allow employees to set aside a portion of their earnings on a pre-tax basis to cover out-of-pocket medical and dependent care expenses. Participation is elected on a calendar year basis and is available to all eligible employees the first of the month following the completion of 30 days of continuous service.

Health Savings Accounts (HSA) - A pre-tax Health Spending Account (HSA) is offered to those who enroll in the High Deductible Plan. It allows you to pay for health care expenses. Participation is elected on a calendar year basis and is available to all eligible employees the first of the month following the completion of 30 days of continuous service. Company contributes to HSA.

Short-Term Disability - Eligible employees may be entitled to salary continuance during periods of temporary disability. Benefits are based on employee status and years of service.*

Group Life and Long-Term Disability** - Eligible employees may elect life insurance and long-term disability coverage the first of the month following 30 days of continuous service.

Vacation and Paid Holidays - Employees are eligible for vacation upon the completion of six months of employment. In addition, the Company offers eight paid holidays.

Education Assistance - The Company supports employees who wish to continue their education to secure increased responsibility and growth within their professional careers. We offer a reimbursement program for expenses incurred through approved institutions of learning. In addition, Fellow, Life Management Institute (FLMI) and International Claim Association (ICA) program courses are offered after the completion of six months of services at no cost to the employee.

Fitness Reimbursement - Eligible employees are able to receive up to 100% reimbursement for monthly dues (employee only).

Supplemental Plans** - Cancer, Heart/Stroke, Accident.
