The Sr. Director, Business Technology Leader understands the business domain and partners with Globe Life’s business leaders and IT leaders to strategize, plan, prioritize and deliver innovative and differentiated technology enabled solutions to the enterprise.  This leader must understand the business domain and develop plans for how technology can enable our business strategy. This role must establish and maintain strong partnerships with operations leaders within the business, serving as the single point of contact for all IT-related activities within their business domain.  This role will work closely with their IT peers to align business and technical objectives into a concise technology roadmap with clear milestones and value-driven commitments for delivery.

 

PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Work with the leaders in the business domain to effectively manage demand to prioritize and lead projects to achieve business objectives. Serve as the single point of accountability for IT to your assigned stakeholders.
  • Develop and maintain the business systems architecture and, in partnership with transformation and strategy leaders, document key business processes for the business unit they support. Utilizing value streams that drive value to our leads, agents, policy holders and business partners, translate how our application portfolio enables these value streams and manage technology programs to achieve transformation.
  • Work with the leaders in the IT delivery organizations to prioritize investments, build roadmaps, hold teams accountable to commitments, and serve as the advocate for the operational and transformation leaders into IT.
  • Leads the development of the overall roadmap for the portfolio, making commitments around time and major deliverables to align with operational business plan commitments.
  • Leads regular interactions with the executive sponsor(s) to maintain the partnership between operations and IT. Involves planning, updates, notifications of issues, and participating as a member of the sponsor’s leadership team to ensure tight alignment with IT. 
  • Directs the creation and maintenance of the required portfolio documentation and artifacts. Establishes and ensures appropriate governance functions for the portfolio.
  • Leads the oversight of the portfolio’s execution on both major initiatives and product development, the progress compared with the plan and the achievement of agreed deliverables.
  • Solutions Management - Know your key business partners, understand business priorities and attend appropriate business meetings and connect the dots across business domains to help shepherd business needs through the organization. Understand the business domain and operations that you support. Use business artifacts and work products to help guide the platform and technology strategy for your business domain. Establish key metrics, measure progress, learn and continuously improve.
  • IT Strategy – Understand our IT strategy and priorities, connect the dots between the business unit strategy and our IT strategy. Collaborate with your peers to deliver measurable outcomes as a team and facilitate the adoption of new tools and methods across the business unit that you support.
  • IT Value Delivery – Identify key programs in your area and work with your business partner to prioritize and select the projects that need to be worked on. Ensure requirements alignment, staffing, manage expectations and manage the process of delivering value through these programs.
  • IT Operations Management – Understand, monitor, manage and mitigate Operational Risk, Financial Management and Information Risk.
    • Understand, communicate and manage IT operational risk from business commitments, security requirements and regulatory requirements.
    • Understand business financial metrics, IT financials and budget. Manage the financials of your area to deliver on your financial commitments. Develop and publish a rolling 90 day forecast of the upcoming spend against your budget.
    • Understand and mitigate risk related to partnering with solution vendors and the assumed risk from M&As.
  • Talent Management - Identify, recruit, retain, grow and engage talent that can ensure transformation and business continuity.
  • Understand Information Security priorities and effectively bridge the gap between our business and IT teams with plans to manage and mitigate risk for Globe Life.
  • Provide constructive, actionable, feedback to IT peers on improvements that can be made to systems and infrastructure.
  • Works with FP&A to develop and control the portfolio budget and manage to financial commitments.
  • Hybrid Schedule - (WFH/Remote - Monday and Friday) & (In Office - Tuesday thru Thursday)

 

 

Required Skills

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES

  • Strong business acumen, including industry- and domain-specific knowledge of the organization and its business units. Familiarity with industry trends and innovation.
  • Possess and maintain a high level of personal integrity and collaboration
  • Demonstrated effective professional acumen at the senior management level
  • Deep acumen in financial management with experience managing cash budget of $10M+
  • Ability to exhibit and inspire innovative thinking among direct and indirect reports
  • Able to lead and motivate cross-functional, interdisciplinary teams and to motivate matrixed resources

Required Knowledge & Experience

EDUCATION & WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

  • Bachelor's or master’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, business, or equivalent related field.
  • 10-15 years of IT implementation, transformation, or program/portfolio experience
  • Broad experience across all facets of IT delivery (project delivery, IT operations, risk management and software engineering)
  • Recent experience implementing transformational technology that drives clear value to the organization
  • Experience with contract and vendor negotiations and management including managed services.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Savings and Investment Plan (401K) - Eligible employees may begin participating in the plan on the first day of employment.

Medical - Benefits are available to all eligible employees and qualified dependents the first of the month following 30 days of continuous service.

Dental** and Vision - Eligible employees and qualified dependents are able to enroll the first of the month following 30 days of continuous service.

Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA) - Our FSA has two components, Health Care and Dependent Care Accounts. These accounts allow employees to set aside a portion of their earnings on a pre-tax basis to cover out-of-pocket medical and dependent care expenses. Participation is elected on a calendar year basis and is available to all eligible employees the first of the month following the completion of 30 days of continuous service.

Health Savings Accounts (HSA) - A pre-tax Health Spending Account (HSA) is offered to those who enroll in the High Deductible Plan. It allows you to pay for health care expenses. Participation is elected on a calendar year basis and is available to all eligible employees the first of the month following the completion of 30 days of continuous service. Company contributes to HSA.

Short-Term Disability - Eligible employees may be entitled to salary continuance during periods of temporary disability. Benefits are based on employee status and years of service.*

Group Life and Long-Term Disability** - Eligible employees may elect life insurance and long-term disability coverage the first of the month following 30 days of continuous service.

Vacation and Paid Holidays - Employees are eligible for vacation upon the completion of six months of employment. In addition, the Company offers eight paid holidays.

Education Assistance - The Company supports employees who wish to continue their education to secure increased responsibility and growth within their professional careers. We offer a reimbursement program for expenses incurred through approved institutions of learning. In addition, Fellow, Life Management Institute (FLMI) and International Claim Association (ICA) program courses are offered after the completion of six months of services at no cost to the employee.

Fitness Reimbursement - Eligible employees are able to receive up to 100% reimbursement for monthly dues (employee only).

Supplemental Plans** - Cancer, Heart/Stroke, Accident.
