This position reports to the IT Application Manager and is responsible for the development, deployment, and support of new and existing applications to meet the current and future needs of the business. The Senior Programmer Analysts participate in all phases of the System Development Life Cycle as needed, applying expert knowledge of system interaction and business familiarity to meet business needs. This work is performed as part of a team or as a team lead, depending on the project.


PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Coordinate with clients and other I.T. personnel in analyzing system requests, developing specifications for new system development projects or for maintenance to existing mainframe-based applications.
  • Adhere to System Development Life Cycle standards, including preparation of project-related documents as requested by the Project Manager.
  • Make design changes to programs, either alone or in concert with other programmers.
  • Prepare unit and integration test plans for program changes, and in cooperation with clients and other I.T. personnel, perform the testing.
  • Conduct thorough problem analysis in regard to technical system and application programs; documents findings and proposes problem resolution alternatives.
  • Some on-call responsibilities to support production as needed.
  • Communicate effectively with technical and non-technical audiences
  • Communicate project progress and issues as needed.
  • Prepare user and operational documentation for programming work performed.
  • Serve as a Project Lead for smaller or less complex projects
  • Serve as a mentor for less experienced programmer/analysts as needed.
  • Serve as a ‘go-to’ resource for complex questions.
  • Be a participatory team member, share knowledge, assist with projects as needed and suggest improvements for the system development process.

Required Skills

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES

  • 8+ years experience performing system development and support for mainframe-based applications.
  • Proven experience in meeting deadlines and managing multiple priorities.
  • Proven ability to work with clients in developing system solutions to business needs
  • Mastery of mainframe development tools: COBOL, Easytrieve, CICS, VSAM, VSE/DOS. Some Assembler knowledge also a plus.
  • Master of VSE tools such as: SyncSort, IDCAMS, CECI, CEDF, FTP, or any other third party toolset.
  • Client/Server technology skills a plus. Working with .TXT, .XLS files and SQL is also a plus, but not required.
  • Working skills for MS Office suite of products also preferred (Word, Excel, Visio)
  • Working knowledge of systems development life cycle and use of structured methodologies and techniques (Waterfall, Agile).
  • Experience working in a team environment.
  • Strong technical, analytical and communication skills.

Required Knowledge & Experience

EDUCATION & WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Business Administration or other related field, or equivalent work experience.
• Insurance industry experience in life, health and annuity a plus.
• Minimal travel required. Would be on an as needed basis.

Participation is elected on a calendar year basis and is available to all eligible employees the first of the month following the completion of 30 days of continuous service.

Health Savings Accounts (HSA) - A pre-tax Health Spending Account (HSA) is offered to those who enroll in the High Deductible Plan. It allows you to pay for health care expenses. Participation is elected on a calendar year basis and is available to all eligible employees the first of the month following the completion of 30 days of continuous service. Company contributes to HSA.

Short-Term Disability - Eligible employees may be entitled to salary continuance during periods of temporary disability. Benefits are based on employee status and years of service.*

Group Life and Long-Term Disability** - Eligible employees may elect life insurance and long-term disability coverage the first of the month following 30 days of continuous service.

Vacation and Paid Holidays - Employees are eligible for vacation upon the completion of six months of employment. In addition, the Company offers eight paid holidays.

Education Assistance - The Company supports employees who wish to continue their education to secure increased responsibility and growth within their professional careers. We offer a reimbursement program for expenses incurred through approved institutions of learning. In addition, Fellow, Life Management Institute (FLMI) and International Claim Association (ICA) program courses are offered after the completion of six months of services at no cost to the employee.

Fitness Reimbursement - Eligible employees are able to receive up to 100% reimbursement for monthly dues (employee only).

Supplemental Plans** - Cancer, Heart/Stroke, Accident.
