Role Overview:

Could you be our next Underwriting Clerk? Globe Life is looking for an Underwriting Clerk to join the team!

 

In this role, you will be responsible for reviewing and processing of Life and Health new business applications for insurance coverage, from receipt to final status in accordance with established procedures and guidelines in a timely manner and meeting departmental quality/production standards. Reviewing of documents for completeness, accuracy, and compliance with each state. The Underwriter also manages daily workflow and supports the department with various functions.

 

This is an on-site position located in Broadview Heights, OH.

 

What You Will Do:

  • Daily review and preparation of new business applications received in office; and correspondence to team on incoming business.
  • Review and process electronic and all paper applications in the FHD system.
  • Review and process all Heritage Whole Life (HWL) and Child Whole Life (CWL) applications in IHL’s mainframe.
  • Review HWL and CWL policy records for maximum allowable coverage.
  • Communicate issues with writing agent; follow up and review all refer to underwriting for medical investigation to determine if eligible for coverage.
  • Scan and index all supplemental and life applications including pended items into Onbase. Send a final count email to IHL of how many HWL applications are being sent to them. This includes applications that are in good order (IGO), pended, or declined.
  • In constant communication with team concerning incoming documents from agents for new business and corrections. 
  • Responsible for issuance of all pending applications that are received in the office.
  • Print, assemble and mail CWL policies weekly.
  • Complete processes for errors, pending and withdrawn applications.
  • Review all Department of Insurance requests for Life policies for deceased policyholders.
  • Work closely and communicate effectively with Life team at IHL, Milliman, and IRIX.
  • Medical investigation and follow up for policies pending for further medical review. 
  • Watch for trends, issues or potential fraud along with assisting with agent practice investigation.
  • Assists with complaint research, follow-up and resolution.
  • Effectively communicate with agents and agency owners regarding new business submission, underwriting guidelines, procedures and state specifics for each product.
  • Updating of processing manuals on a consistent basis.
  • Complete assigned projects in the planned timeframe.
  • Review and reconcile invoices from MIB for payment.
  • Review and analyze all New Business for group additions and makes determination of effective date and agent advance. 
  • Make group additions phone calls to verify eligibility of employee(s) applying for coverage.
  • Send out additions letter with copy of payroll form when applicable.
  • Prepare new group business for billing representative to make contact with Payroll administrator and create new profile set up.
  • Evaluate each Group for bill payment delinquency and update any pertinent information related to the group.
  • Reviews each application for proper documentation including payroll group agreement and payroll authorization forms.

  • Proficient in Word, Excel, and Outlook. Ability to learn new computer system.
  • Ability to navigate company website to assist with questions and find state specific forms.
  • Knowledge of customer service principles and practices.
  • Teamwork – Commitment to the successful achievement of team and organizational goals through a desire to participate with and help other members of the team.
  • Must possess a professional friendly attitude and be able to quickly develop rapport with agents and agency owners.
  • Type 25-30 wpm.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and deadlines.
  • Ability to professionally handle and resolve escalated issues
