Role Overview:

Could you be our next Access Control Technician? Globe Life is looking for an Access Control Technician to join the team!

This role is responsible for administering, maintaining, and monitoring physical access control systems and security surveillance infrastructure to protect employees, visitors, and company assets. It combines hands-on technical expertise with compliance analysis, policy development, and professional advisory responsibilities. Working closely with IT, Facilities, HR, Legal, and Compliance teams, this position ensures access permissions align with employment status, role-based authorizations, and regulatory requirements, including SOX and insurance industry standards. The ideal candidate is technically proficient in physical security systems, experienced in compliance and policy work, and able to serve as a trusted advisor across all levels of the organization.

This is an on-site position located in McKinney, Texas.

What You Will Do:

  • Daily administration of access control systems, including granting, modifying, and revoking credentials.
  • Manage and review security camera systems to ensure continuous recording and proper coverage.
  • Respond to service requests, incidents, and alarms in a timely manner.
  • Perform routine inspections, preventive maintenance, and troubleshooting of access control hardware and software.
  • Collaborate with IT and Facilities on new equipment installation during office builds or renovations.
  • Support investigations by retrieving and preserving security footage and access logs for authorized personnel.
  • Manage vendor relationships, coordinate service calls, and evaluate equipment upgrades.
  • Conduct regular access permission audits to ensure alignment with employee roles and least privilege principles.
  • Coordinate with HR to process access changes for new hires, terminations, transfers, and role changes.
  • Maintain accurate access control databases and user records.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and insurance industry regulations including SOX, privacy, and data retention requirements.
  • Analyze access data to identify security gaps and recommend corrective actions.
  • Prepare reports on access activity, system health, and incidents for management and compliance stakeholders.
  • Support internal and external audits with documentation and evidence of control effectiveness.
  • Develop and maintain access control policies, standards, and procedures aligned with regulatory requirements.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert and advisor to HR, IT, Legal, Facilities, and Compliance teams.
  • Provide strategic recommendations to leadership on program improvements, technology upgrades, and risk mitigation.
  • Advise on access control implications during organizational changes such as mergers or office expansions.
  • Develop and deliver training on badge usage, visitor management, and security awareness.
  • Maintain detailed documentation of system configurations, policies, incident reports, and maintenance activities.

What You Can Bring:

  • Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice, Information Technology, Electronics Technology, or a related field preferred; candidates without a degree must have 3–5 years of relevant work experience. Continuing education in physical security, surveillance technology, or compliance is encouraged and may be supported by the company.
  • Minimum of 3–5 years of hands-on experience in physical security or access control administration, including enterprise-level platforms such as Lenel, Software House, or Genetec.
  • Experience with IP-based video surveillance systems, VMS software, and physical security hardware installation including low-voltage wiring, card readers, door controllers, electric strikes, magnetic locks, and control panels.
  • Understanding of network fundamentals including IP addressing, VLANs, and PoE infrastructure as they relate to security systems.
  • Knowledge of access control best practices including role-based access, least privilege, and separation of duties; familiarity with SOX, HIPAA, and state privacy laws preferred.
  • Background in access audits, compliance documentation, and supporting security investigations including chain-of-custody handling of footage and access logs.
  • Experience in a corporate, financial services, or insurance environment is a plus; cross-functional collaboration with IT, HR, Facilities, Legal, or Compliance teams strongly preferred.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and respond to urgent incidents with composure.
  • High level of discretion and integrity when handling sensitive surveillance footage and confidential access data.
  • Industry certifications strongly preferred, including PSP, CPP, ESNT, CompTIA Security+ or Network+, or manufacturer-specific certifications such as Lenel OnGuard, Genetec, or Axis Communications.
