Role Overview:

Could you be our next Manager of Investigations and Associate General Counsel? Globe Life is looking for a Manager of Investigations and Associate General Counsel to join the team!

In this role, you will be responsible for providing the day-to-day management of end-to-end investigations across business lines within the subsidiaries as part of the Company’s focus on its Compliance and Legal Program.  The Manager of Investigations and Assistant General Counsel also performs the duties and responsibilities of an in-house attorney, including providing legal counsel to the Company’s internal departments as needed in connection with the Company’s Compliance Program. The contemplated work arrangement will consist of a hybrid remote / in-office schedule with an in-office location of McKinney, Texas.

 

This is a hybrid position located in McKinney, TX (WFH Monday & Friday, In Office Tuesday-Thursday).

 

What You Will Do:

  • Serve as day-to-day legal advisor responsible for managing investigations of possible legal, regulatory, or Company policy violations.
  • Scope, manage, and direct attorney-client privileged investigations of such violations, coordinating with appropriate company personnel, consultants and outside counsel.
  • Coordinate with Senior Vice President of Legal and Compliance to ensure Company Compliance Plan is followed.
  • Coordinate with Director of Investigations and Associate General Counsel to ensure Company Compliance Plan is followed.
  • Draft and provide legal review of policies and procedures regarding the investigation process.
  • Coordinate with litigation, security, and other legal partners on complex, cross-functional investigations.
  • Collaborate with outside counsel on investigation issues.
  • Coordinate with law enforcement agencies, insurance departments, and other government bodies on investigation-related matters.
  • Assist or lead privileged incident reviews, including fact-finding, root cause analysis, and potential customer impacts; advise on and facilitate implementation of appropriate remedial activities.
  • Monitor enforcement trends and regularly advise investigation teams, business units, and legal partners on investigation best practices.
  • Stay up to date with changes in laws, regulations, and industry guidelines that affect Globe Life.
  • Monitor regulatory developments and assess their impact on the Company’s operations. 
  • Provide guidance and support to various business units to ensure compliance with applicable requirements.
  • Adjust investigation strategies and standards accordingly.
  • Collaborate with other legal partners to develop and deliver investigation training, recommend improvements to the investigation process and control enhancements and take additional steps to mitigate risk.
  • Set strategy for and advise relevant stakeholders and senior leadership about investigation risks and mitigation.
  • Follow and ensure consistent application of Company policies and procedures.

 

What You Can Bring:

  • Juris Doctor is required.
  • Must be licensed to practice law in at least one State.
  • 3+ years’ experience in an investigatory or labor/employment role is required.
  • Prior insurance industry experience is not required but is a plus.
  • Prior in-house legal department experience is not required but is a plus.
  • Prior work with compliance plans is strongly preferred.
  • Employment law experience is preferred.
  • Excellent time management skills are essential for success in this position.
  • Ability to meet critical deadlines across multiple legal and non-legal teams is required.
  • Sense of urgency and responsiveness are required.
  • Ability to effectively organize and prioritize work while handling multiple matters. 
  • Strong interpersonal skills, tact, diplomacy, and a high level of professionalism are required.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to issue-spot for areas of legal concern.
  • Ability to work well both independently and within a team setting.
  • Willingness to learn the legal and regulatory framework of the insurance industry is required (if not already familiar).
  • Must receive direction well in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Ability and willingness to learn and become proficient in other software tools, as required.
  • Comprehensive understanding of attorney/client privilege, maintaining compliance with Legal Rules of Professional Responsibility and confidentiality of highly sensitive information.
  • Ability to research law across all states in the U.S., with an understanding of conflict of laws principles.
  • Ability to advise senior business leaders on complex legal issues related to conduct within the company.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
