Role Overview:
Could you be our next Underwriting Manager? Globe Life is looking for a Underwriting Manager to join the team!
In this role, you will be responsible for leading a small team of group underwriters while reviewing and analyzing requests for proposals for insurance coverage for prospective groups and needed rate actions for in-force groups at renewal. This role combines hands-on underwriting expertise with team leadership responsibilities, utilizing underwriting software and related computer programs to assess risk within prospective groups and determine premium rates for coverage requested.
The position requires managing underwriting operations for supplemental health products marketed to employer groups, trusts, and associations while maintaining effective communication with both internal stakeholders and external brokers to ensure optimal risk assessment and competitive positioning.
While this role is designed as hybrid, we believe in finding the best talent regardless of location. Outstanding candidates may be eligible for full remote work based on experience and qualifications.
This is a hybrid position located in McKinney, Texas (WFH Monday & Friday, In Office Tuesday-Thursday).
What You Will Do:
- Manage small team of group underwriters, underwriting supplemental health products marketed to employer groups, trusts and associations
- Use rating tools and industry knowledge to make balanced assessments of the risks and rewards of sales opportunities and rate quote requests from information provided by Sales Directors.
Includes:

- Understanding group and competitive information provided to accurately evaluate opportunities.
- Accurately entering group details into a rating tool.
- Analyzing and adjusting the standard output based on group information on file.
- Determining what rates and terms to offer.
- Enter decisions and rates, and request proposals from the Proposal Team in Salesforce; log group details and rating into actuarial database tools.
- Communicate effectively with internal stakeholders. Includes requesting additional information from Sales Directors and communication rationale for declining to quote as needed; and communicating rates and terms to the Proposals/ Implementation team.
- Communicate effectively with external stakeholders such as external brokers.
- Analyze available reporting to understand the risk profile of the division book by product.
- Work with Actuarial to review renewal groups to determine rate action at Policy Anniversary within required timeframes.

What You Can Bring:
- Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience.
- Minimum of 8-12 years’ experience with Group Insurance sales and service.
- Demonstrates working knowledge of group health market distribution and products.
- Demonstrated ability to foster multi-disciplinary team collaboration.
- Applies advanced knowledge of group insurance and supplemental/voluntary insurance industry obtained through higher education and work experience; problems faced are difficult and sometimes complex.
- Works independently with general supervision.
- Strong attention to detail; well-organized and efficient; proficient at documentation.
- Proficient with Microsoft office, SalesForce, SQL and other data analytic and reporting tools, and internet research skills.
- Aptitude for working in a collaborative environment with other functional areas within the company.
- Comfortable with quantitative work and logical thinking.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to communicate clearly the information needed to evaluate an opportunity along with reasons for decisions.
- Understanding of underwriting policies and risk appetites, and industry standards and the legal, organizational and administrative impacts of underwriting decisions; able to clearly explain facts, policies and practices.
- Ability to learn and use Microsoft Office tools, risk assessment software and Salesforce.
