Paralegal – Product Compliance

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

Job Summary

The Paralegal will support the Lead Paralegal in Product Compliance by ensuring that the company’s insurance policies, advertising material, and other related forms are in compliance with insurance laws and regulations in all jurisdictions where the company is licensed to sell insurance. The Paralegal will help research insurance law, and draft policy form language. The Compliance Paralegal is also responsible for reading bulletins and relevant state and federal regulatory rules and guidance to stay abreast of changes that may affect insurance products, advertising and sales practices.

 

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

 

  • Product development support; draft and proofread policy forms, benefit riders, applications, brochures or other related materials.
  • Research regulations to determine validity of objections, and prepare rebuttals and address objections.
  • Discuss and resolve problems with forms and language with state insurance department personnel and other Home Office personnel.
  • Attend various project meetings.
  • Provide information to Actuarial and other Departments regarding changing benefits or policy provisions.
  • Review and approve test material and data related to new product implementation.
  • Maintain submission and approval documentation.
  • Research insurance laws; stay abreast of relevant state and federal legislation and regulation which affect insurance products and related advertising, using Westlaw or other legal research service.
  • File new products along with required forms for state insurance departments’ review and approval utilizing SERFF.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Extremely detail oriented and very well organized.
  • Ability to perform varied tasks using personal computers and mainframe administrative programs.

Required Knowledge & Experience

Education & Work Experience required

  • Bachelor’s Degree and/or Paralegal Certificate
  • Legal or insurance industry experience.
  • Strong proofing and analytical skills.
  • Demonstrated research and problem solving skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with competency in grammar, spelling and punctuation.

Short-Term Disability - Eligible employees may be entitled to salary continuance during periods of temporary disability. Benefits are based on employee status and years of service.*

Group Life and Long-Term Disability** - Eligible employees may elect life insurance and long-term disability coverage the first of the month following 30 days of continuous service.

Vacation and Paid Holidays - Employees are eligible for vacation upon the completion of six months of employment. In addition, the Company offers eight paid holidays.

Education Assistance - The Company supports employees who wish to continue their education to secure increased responsibility and growth within their professional careers. We offer a reimbursement program for expenses incurred through approved institutions of learning. In addition, Fellow, Life Management Institute (FLMI) and International Claim Association (ICA) program courses are offered after the completion of six months of services at no cost to the employee.

Fitness Reimbursement - Eligible employees are able to receive up to 100% reimbursement for monthly dues (employee only).
