Investment Analyst

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

JOB SUMMARY:

 

The investment analyst will assist in the management of over $20 billion in invested assets by developing and maintaining complex portfolio analytics, stress tests, and financial projections. Additional duties include contributing to liquidity management, reporting investment performance to management, and evaluating new investment strategies in alternative assets.  This position will be an essential member of a small team working directly with senior management. The company seeks an individual with strong financial skills, an entrepreneurial mindset, high proficiency in Excel, and a passion for investing. PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILTIES:

Portfolio analytics: 

  • Maintain existing and develop new reports to analyze, quantify and monitor the portfolio. Produce reports used to monitor portfolio risk such as ALM, credit/default risk, mark to market risk, call risk, reinvestment risk, interest rate risk, sector exposures, concentration risk, regulatory limits & risk, liquidity risk, etc.
  • Maintain and develop reports to communicate investment department performance and activity to management
  • Generate and analyze reports that will support the fixed income decision making process
  • Generate reports, create models, and analyze scenarios to support internal and external stakeholder’s decision making
  • Produce investment related medium and long-term financial projections. Projections include expected cash flow available for investment, cash flow from investments, investment income, future values of the investment portfolio, etc.  The projections facilitate financial planning and analysis, investment strategy and decisions, strategic and capital planning, asset liability management, etc.

Liquidity management:

  • Manage liquidity by analyzing the company’s sources and needs for liquidity, developing liquidity stress tests and making recommendations to optimize the company’s liquidity position.
  • Produce investment related medium and long-term financial projections. Projections include expected cash flow available for investment, cash flow from investments, investment income, future values of the investment portfolio, etc.  The projections facilitate financial planning and analysis, investment strategy and decisions, strategic and capital planning, asset liability management, etc.
  • Assist in evaluating new investment strategies for the portfolio and selecting and monitoring the external asset managers utilized to implement new strategies, including spread lending, commercial mortgage loans, and investment funds.  Investment funds include private equity, infrastructure debt and equity, real estate, commercial mortgage loans, direct lending, etc.
  • Manage $700 million Federal Home Loan Bank program and utilize the financing options to manage liquidity and execute spread lending strategies
  • Monitor spread lending program and evaluate and recommend investment options to be used for spread lending strategies Monitor $500M commercial mortgage loan portfolio by monitoring and evaluating performance of external managers. 
  • Work with external portfolio managers to optimize performance and risk exposures
  • Monitor financial markets to identify trends affecting the investment portfolio and communicate views to the investment team
  • Critique and enhance various systems utilized in analyzing risks within the fixed income portfolio
  • Work with other departments to support operational effectiveness and provide support in areas such as workflow efficiency, compliance, reporting, etc.  

Required Skills

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:

  • Self-starter able to work independently
  • Ability to analyze large quantities of information efficiently and effectively
  • Detail-oriented, with strong analytical and reasoning skills                                                      
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment
  • Strong Excel programming skills required—Basic VBA, Power Pivot &/or SQL knowledge a plus
  • Experience or training in Bloomberg or other related software                              
  • Excellent verbal written and presentation skills required
  • Knowledge of general fixed income and risk concepts preferred                                                                  
  • Self-motivated, passion for learning, desire to learn about investments
  • Reliable and predictable attendance of your assigned shift 
  • Ability to work Full-Time and/or Part-Time based on the specific position for which you're applying

Required Knowledge & Experience

EDUCATION & WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

  • Undergraduate degree in Finance or quantitative field
  • 3 - 7 years of experience in an investment or financial role
  • Interest in or current participation in the CFA/FRM designation a plus

Health Savings Accounts (HSA) - A pre-tax Health Spending Account (HSA) is offered to those who enroll in the High Deductible Plan. It allows you to pay for many of the health care expenses not covered by your medical plan including deductibles and co-pays. Participation is elected on a calendar year basis and is available to all eligible employees the first of the month following the completion of 30 days of continuous service. Company contribution to HSA ($4500 family, $2500 single plans)

Short-Term Disability - Eligible employees may be entitled to salary continuance during periods of temporary disability. Benefits are based on employee status and years of service.*

Group Life and Long-Term Disability** - Eligible employees may elect life insurance and long-term disability coverage the first of the month following 30 days of continuous service.

Vacation and Paid Holidays - Employees are eligible for vacation upon the completion of six months of employment. In addition, the Company offers eight paid holidays.

Education Assistance - The Company supports employees who wish to continue their education to secure increased responsibility and growth within their professional careers. We offer a reimbursement program for expenses incurred through approved institutions of learning. In addition, Fellow, Life Management Institute (FLMI) and International Claim Association (ICA) program courses are offered after the completion of six months of services at no cost to the employee.

Fitness Reimbursement - Eligible employees are able to receive up to 100% reimbursement for monthly dues (employee only).

Supplemental Plans** - Cancer, Heart/Stroke, Accident.
