Investment Intern (Fall 2022)

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

The Investments Intern will focus on corporate bond and municipal credit research and other related activities required to support a disciplined investment selection and review process for Globe Life Inc. (NYSE: GL) and its affiliates. The Investments Intern will research and present on a specific sector(s) and some (all) of its relevant constituents for management’s review. This internship program offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in asset management, security analysis, capital markets, and valuation. We are currently hiring for fall 2022 positions. Placement will depend on a candidate’s current coursework, track to graduation, and experience.

 

PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Analyze credit risk through research on corporate and municipal debt issuers
  • Report ongoing company-specific and industry-wide developments and trends (verbal/written) 
  • Perform a variety of analyses (including but not limited to) reinvestment break-even, scenario/sensitivity, etc. 
  • Present industry/sector outlooks and provide investment recommendations

Required Skills

  • Firm understanding and interest in capital markets (equities, bonds, derivatives, alternatives, etc.)
  • Solid academic background with advancement towards an undergraduate degree in finance, accounting, economics, mathematics, and/or similar relevance
  • Strong, detail-oriented, analytical/reasoning skills with ability to analyze large quantities of information efficiently and effectively
  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal, writing, and presentation skills; must construct/defend a recommendation
  • Proficiency in financial statement analysis and other relevant information
  • Self-starting, and exhibiting ownership of assigned sector coverage 
  • Robust computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office (Bloomberg terminal functions a plus)
  • Minimum 3.0 GPA
  • Ability to work 20 hours per week.
  • Reliable and predictable attendance of your assigned shift
  • Ability to work Full-Time and/or Part-Time based on the specific position for which you're applying

 

Preferred Skills: 

  • Junior/Senior or MBA/MSF student
  • Interest/participation in the CFA Program
  • Ability and willingness to perform clerical functions as needed
  • Willingness to learn different areas within the organization
  • Work on different projects within the department as well as team projects
  • Back up other team members during vacations and/or leaves of absence

Participation is elected on a calendar year basis and is available to all eligible employees the first of the month following the completion of 30 days of continuous service.

Health Savings Accounts (HSA) - A pre-tax Health Spending Account (HSA) is offered to those who enroll in the High Deductible Plan. It allows you to pay for many of the health care expenses not covered by your medical plan including deductibles and co-pays. Participation is elected on a calendar year basis and is available to all eligible employees the first of the month following the completion of 30 days of continuous service. Company contribution to HSA ($4500 family, $2500 single plans)

Short-Term Disability - Eligible employees may be entitled to salary continuance during periods of temporary disability. Benefits are based on employee status and years of service.*

Group Life and Long-Term Disability** - Eligible employees may elect life insurance and long-term disability coverage the first of the month following 30 days of continuous service.

Vacation and Paid Holidays - Employees are eligible for vacation upon the completion of six months of employment. In addition, the Company offers eight paid holidays.

Education Assistance - The Company supports employees who wish to continue their education to secure increased responsibility and growth within their professional careers. We offer a reimbursement program for expenses incurred through approved institutions of learning. In addition, Fellow, Life Management Institute (FLMI) and International Claim Association (ICA) program courses are offered after the completion of six months of services at no cost to the employee.

Fitness Reimbursement - Eligible employees are able to receive up to 100% reimbursement for monthly dues (employee only).

Supplemental Plans** - Cancer, Heart/Stroke, Accident.
