GMS Mainframe/Server Programmer Analyst (Hybrid)

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

JOB SUMMARY

To design, develop, deploy, and maintain new and existing applications in a Mainframe and Distributed Server environment for Globe Life’s Direct To Consumer division, to include ETL, Merger/Purge, Matching, Sortation, and Reporting for the printing and tracking of Direct Mail campaigns and Inquiry Fulfillment mailings in a deadline driven environment with multiple concurrent workstreams.

New personnel are mentored by an experienced developer in the particulars of our business applications. As such, we are looking for the attitude, aptitude, and base technology skill sets that will allow the trainee to focus on learning the unique job requirements.  

The work location for this position is in Oklahoma City, OK. A Local Hybrid work schedule will be an option after some months of training.


PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Coordinate with clients and other IT personnel in analyzing system requests, developing specifications for new system development projects or for maintenance to existing mainframe and server applications, applying accurate knowledge of system interaction and business familiarity to meet business needs.
  • Convert mainframe and server based legacy systems to modern applications and platforms.
  • Prepare unit and integration test plans and code/feature-level smoke test cases for program changes, and in cooperation with clients and other IT personnel, perform the testing.
  • Prepare detailed documentation including design, development, testing and operational specifications.
  • Adhere to System Development Life Cycle standards, including well-structured, efficient, and maintainable code.
  • Make design changes to programs, either alone or in concert with other programmers.
  • Communicate project progress and issues as needed.
  • Serve as a ‘go-to’ resource for complex questions.
  • Provide timely response and resolution of emergency production questions, issues, and defects as they arise, 24/7.
  • Learn new technologies, contribute as part of a Scrum team, and take responsibility for assignments and work efforts.

Required Skills

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES

  • 3+ years of experience performing system development and support for full-stack client-server-based applications.
  • Proficiency in SQL Server / SSIS / Visual Studio / Relational Databases.
  • Experience in .Net programming (VB.Net or C#).
  • 2+ years of experience or some education in system development and support for mainframe-based applications.
  • Some knowledge of mainframe development tools: COBOL, Easytrieve, VSAM, IDCAMS, JCL, SYNCSort, VSE/MVS.
  • Assembler knowledge is a plus.
  • Some knowledge of USPS related software (CASS, NCOA, PAVE) is a plus.
  • Experience with principles of software design, including Object Oriented Design.
  • Working knowledge of Systems Development Life Cycle and use of structured methodologies and techniques.
  • Strong skills in writing, maintaining, testing and debugging code.
  • Experience in researching and interpreting data.
  • Solid understanding of relational database concepts and table design.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, Access, and Visio.
  • Experience with version control software such as Azure.
  • Experience writing process flows and requirements documents.
  • Self-motivated, detail oriented, and consistently thorough.
  • Excellent analytical, problem solving, and research skills.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills with experience in meeting deadlines.
  • Ability to handle multiple concurrent detailed projects, and to quickly shift priorities as needed.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills (both verbal and written).
  • Ability to work independently and as a team member.
  • Reliable and predictable attendance.

Required Knowledge & Experience

EDUCATION & WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent work experience.
  • Direct Mail Industry experience a plus.

Short-Term Disability - Eligible employees may be entitled to salary continuance during periods of temporary disability. Benefits are based on employee status and years of service.*

Group Life and Long-Term Disability** - Eligible employees may elect life insurance and long-term disability coverage the first of the month following 30 days of continuous service.

Vacation and Paid Holidays - Employees are eligible for vacation upon the completion of six months of employment. In addition, the Company offers eight paid holidays.

Education Assistance - The Company supports employees who wish to continue their education to secure increased responsibility and growth within their professional careers. We offer a reimbursement program for expenses incurred through approved institutions of learning. In addition, Fellow, Life Management Institute (FLMI) and International Claim Association (ICA) program courses are offered after the completion of six months of services at no cost to the employee.

Fitness Reimbursement - Eligible employees are able to receive up to 100% reimbursement for monthly dues (employee only).
