Data Analytics Analyst I (Hybrid)

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

JOB SUMMARY:

The Actuarial Department is responsible for supporting and enhancing sustainable growth of both sales and profits while managing the risks and safeguarding the solvency of Globe Life.  Actuaries are involved in life and health insurance product design, development, pricing and implementation, and are instrumental in the ongoing financial management of the enterprise.

This position will be a member of the Management Insights and Enablement Team within the Globe Life Actuarial Department. The role of Data Analytics Analyst will be integral in transitioning existing processes from SQL Server and Excel to cloud technologies, including Redshift, Aurora, Lambda, IICS, and more. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong data processing and analytical skills complemented with a positive and collaborative attitude to facilitate a smooth evolution. This position will have a high level of visibility and connectivity both within and beyond the Actuarial Department.

PRIMARY DUTIES & REPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Redesign, transition, and update complex actuarial processes
  • Transfer, manipulate, and organize large amounts of data to enable analysis
  • Investigate cutting edge tools and technology to improve department capabilities
  • Collaborate with other actuarial teams to foster engagement for cloud transition
  • Modernize and streamline existing processes and data to enhance efficiency
  • Assist other team members within the department with various ad hoc projects.

 

Required Skills

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:

  • Robust analytical and problem solving skills coupled with attention to details
  • Database and SQL knowledge
  • Exposure to programming languages, preferably Python and/or VB
  • Working knowledge of MS Office Suite, specifically Excel
  • Versatile, self-motivated learner with ability to pick up any new skills necessary to get the job done
  • Strong work ethic with good time management to meet timelines and requirements
  • Adaptable to a dynamic environment and changing priorities
  • Effective oral and written communication skills

Required Knowledge & Experience

EDUCATION & WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, mathematics, actuarial science or related field preferred
  • Working experience with any or all of the following is a plus:
    • AWS Services (such as S3, Workspaces, Lambda, DMS, Glue, and Athena)
    • Columnar and relational databases (like Redshift, SQL Server, or Aurora)
    • Programming Languages (like Python, R, VB, C++, or Cobol)
    • ETL tools (like Dataiku, DataBrew, SSIS, or Informatica)
    • Data visualization and reporting tools (like Tableau, Qlik, or PowerBI)
  • Insurance industry experience is also a plus

Company contributes to HSA.

Short-Term Disability - Eligible employees may be entitled to salary continuance during periods of temporary disability. Benefits are based on employee status and years of service.*

Group Life and Long-Term Disability** - Eligible employees may elect life insurance and long-term disability coverage the first of the month following 30 days of continuous service.

Vacation and Paid Holidays - Employees are eligible for vacation upon the completion of six months of employment. In addition, the Company offers eight paid holidays.

Education Assistance - The Company supports employees who wish to continue their education to secure increased responsibility and growth within their professional careers. We offer a reimbursement program for expenses incurred through approved institutions of learning. In addition, Fellow, Life Management Institute (FLMI) and International Claim Association (ICA) program courses are offered after the completion of six months of services at no cost to the employee.

Fitness Reimbursement - Eligible employees are able to receive up to 100% reimbursement for monthly dues (employee only).

Supplemental Plans** - Cancer, Heart/Stroke, Accident.
