Financial Business Analyst I

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

The primary function of this role is to support the accurate and timely importing and exporting of our Lawson Financial interface files for GL, CB and AP in our production environment.  This position may also be involved in Lawson system maintenance as well as testing required changes to the interface files.  This position works closely with internal customers from the business (Financial Reporting, General Accounting, Cash Management, Premium Accounting and others) as well as IT.  

The other primary focus of the role will be to help identify and enact clean up opportunities in our current ERP system as we prepare to move to a new ERP system.

As time permits, this position may also provide administrative support for the company’s central check writing software, MHC Document Express, by configuring the software when new bank accounts are added and working with the banks to ensure electronic files and checks are acceptable.

 

  • Monitor daily imports and resolve issues in a timely manner
  • Use accounting knowledge to identify and assist in the resolution of import and export errors
  • Use accounting knowledge to help identify and enact clean up opportunities in our current ERP system as we prepare
    to move to a new ERP system.
  • Serve as project manager when new interfaces or changes to existing interfaces are needed
  • Ensure effective internal controls related to the import processes are in place
  • Clearly document all key actions in our issue tracking system
  • Create or update interface file layouts
  • Develop and execute test plans to confirm accuracy of IT enhancements as they affect the General Ledger accounting feeds
  • Co-system administrator for central check writer software
  • Maintain and review accuracy of department owned SOX controls
  • Serve as the back up to the other department analysts as well as other assigned duties

Required Skills

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills with competency in grammar and spelling are required when working with the various user departments and IT. 
  • Proficient in Excel, Word, and Visio
  • Extensive use of Excel is required to perform functions such as querying the General Ledger and other databases along with comparing test import files
  • Extensive use of Visio is required to create/maintain flowcharts documenting processes relating to inward and outward facing programs that interface with our ERP system.
  • Project Management experience strongly preferred
  • Experience with balancing interfaces in or out of the general ledger is a plus
  • Experience in developing and documenting test plans
  • Excellent number recognition skills
  • Experience using SQL queries is helpful 
  • Experience developing Crystal Reports is helpful
  • Exhibit technical aptitude 
  • Must be organized and extremely accurate 
  • Must be a self-starter with the ability to objectively analyze, recognize problem situations and develop system solutions
  • Must be a team player
  • Must exhibit ability to maintain confidentiality, loyalty, empathy, patience, and tact. 
  • Must be able to work under tight deadlines.
  • Reliable and predictable attendance of your assigned shift
  • Ability to work Full-Time and/or Part-Time based on the specific position for which you're applying

Required Knowledge & Experience

  • Accounting Degree is required
  • CPA Preferred
  • Minimum 3-5 years of accounting experience
  • Insurance industry experience preferred

Short-Term Disability - Eligible employees may be entitled to salary continuance during periods of temporary disability. Benefits are based on employee status and years of service.*

Group Life and Long-Term Disability** - Eligible employees may elect life insurance and long-term disability coverage the first of the month following 30 days of continuous service.

Vacation and Paid Holidays - Employees are eligible for vacation upon the completion of six months of employment. In addition, the Company offers eight paid holidays.

Education Assistance - The Company supports employees who wish to continue their education to secure increased responsibility and growth within their professional careers. We offer a reimbursement program for expenses incurred through approved institutions of learning. In addition, Fellow, Life Management Institute (FLMI) and International Claim Association (ICA) program courses are offered after the completion of six months of services at no cost to the employee.

Fitness Reimbursement - Eligible employees are able to receive up to 100% reimbursement for monthly dues (employee only).

Supplemental Plans** - Cancer, Heart/Stroke, Accident.
