Unclaimed Property Specialist

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

The Unclaimed Property Specialist will coordinate with the Bank Reconciliation team to gather all outstanding payments issued by Globe Life Inc and its subsidiaries.  Once the outstanding items are gathered, coordination is required with IT and other departments to obtain addresses and other pertinent information as required by state mandates.  After items are loaded to TRACKER, the specialist will then prepare and mail customer search letters.  They will correspond with policyholders, agents, providers, and state representatives to ensure the unclaimed funds are returned to the rightful owner.  These processes could result in extensive research using United American, Globe Life and Accident, and Liberty Mainframe, OnBase, Security Manager, the internet, and national databases of information.  They will also assist in the annual filings of Unclaimed funds to state treasuries; including scanning and emailing reports, burning files to disks, and preparing packets to be mailed.  Another aspect will be handling checks returned to Globe Life Inc for bad addresses.  They will be using a national database to search for a current address; if a better address is not found the checks will then be added to an Excel spreadsheet for loading into Tracker.  The Unclaimed Property Specialist will also be responsible for searching State websites for money belonging to Globe Life Inc or its subsidiaries.  This position is listed as a telecommute on a monthly as needed basis to the Globe Life Corporate office located in McKinney, Texas.  

 

Daily Duties:

  • Prepare and mail customer search letters.
  • Research policies related to United American, First United American, Liberty National, and Globe Life and Accident.
  • Recognize reasons for check issues; premium refunds, claims payments, declines and cancellations, invoice payments.
  • Respond to requests for information concerning search letters from policyholders, providers, state representatives, and agents while adhering to HIPPA guidelines.
  • Collaborate with the Unclaimed Property team to ensure all state specific regulations are being met.
  • Assist in the Annual Reporting of Unclaimed Property to various entities.
  • Process checks and customer search letters returned due to bad addresses. Search for a current address using a nationally recognized database.  If current address is not found, prepare spreadsheet to be loaded to Tracker weekly.
  • Assist in completion of check requisitions once the owner has been located.
  • Research all State websites for money in Unclaimed Property due our company.

 

Periodic Duties:

 

Weekly-

  • Prepare documents to be scanned to OnBase.
  • Respond to requests for Unclaimed Property searches from other departments within the company.
  • Organize and maintain records related to Unclaimed Property.

Monthly-

  • Perform the research using UA Mainframe, Globe Mainframe, Liberty Mainframe, OnBase, Security Manager and other sources to append addresses, date of birth, beneficiaries or any other pertinent information for outstanding checks to be loaded to Tracker.
  • Assist in loading the information to Tracker and completing the necessary journal entries into LAWSON.

Occasional Duties:

  • Assist with other projects as they arrive 

Required Skills

  • Excellent Microsoft Office Excel skills
  • Tracker Pro - Unclaimed Property Software a plus
  • Infor Lawson General Ledger system a plus
  • Type 30-40 wpm
  • 10-key by touch (accuracy a must)
  • Detail Oriented
  • Excellent verbal and written skills
  • Ability to prioritize in a fast-paced environment
  • Internet Navigation

Required Knowledge & Experience

  • High School diploma or equivalent. Associates degree in accounting/finance preferred
  • Two to five years General Accounting experience and/or training
  • Customer Service experience preferred
  • Knowledge of Unclaimed Property Process a plus.

Short-Term Disability - Eligible employees may be entitled to salary continuance during periods of temporary disability. Benefits are based on employee status and years of service.*

Group Life and Long-Term Disability** - Eligible employees may elect life insurance and long-term disability coverage the first of the month following 30 days of continuous service.

Vacation and Paid Holidays - Employees are eligible for vacation upon the completion of six months of employment. In addition, the Company offers eight paid holidays.

Education Assistance - The Company supports employees who wish to continue their education to secure increased responsibility and growth within their professional careers. We offer a reimbursement program for expenses incurred through approved institutions of learning. In addition, Fellow, Life Management Institute (FLMI) and International Claim Association (ICA) program courses are offered after the completion of six months of services at no cost to the employee.

Fitness Reimbursement - Eligible employees are able to receive up to 100% reimbursement for monthly dues (employee only).
