Sr. Financial Specialist

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

Globe Life is looking for an experienced Senior Finance Specialist to be responsible for supporting the Human Resource Department (HR) in the execution of financial activities.  This role is responsible for the day-to-day financial activities the HR organization including ensuring that all financial transactions, systems and procedures comply with regulations, accounting principles, and standards. The ideal candidate will utilize technical expertise, good judgement, accounting technical skills, analytical thinking, and internal/external sources and partnerships to solve problems and arrive at decisions.  They will be willing to develop an in-depth knowledge of HR accounting and obtain and maintain in-depth understanding of key business drivers and uses this understanding to accomplish own work.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with internal HR team members, as well as external partners in Finance, Accounting, Legal and Corporate Tax, maintaining accurate records and providing accounting support.
  • Complete payments and controls expenses by receiving, processing, verifying, and reconciling invoices. Charge expenses to accounts and cost centers by analyzing invoice/expense reports; recording entries.
  • Reconcile processed work by verifying entries and comparing system reports to balances.
  • Review financial documents for accuracy and reconciling accounts. Enter financial data and transactions into the ledger. Ensure financial records comply with regulatory standards.
  • Analyze financial data and provides financial recommendation. Generate financial reports.
  • Prepare employee payroll taxes by gathering tax documents, collaborating with tax and/or vendors to assure payroll taxes are accurate, assures payments and controls are reconciled and retained as per IRS requirements, and are in alignment with standards across the department. Assure W-2’s, 1099’s are accurate and presented timely, as required by regulatory agencies.
  • Understand and interpret applicable enterprise standards, SOP’s and process maps to deliver financial process/accounting services.
  • Support internal and external audit, the Controller and other financial professionals in their duties as needed.
  • Support the equity management and legal teams on cashless stock transactions for employees. Enter non-cash employee benefit information in W-2’s to assure fringe benefits are captured and recorded accurately.  Enter non-cash 1099 entries for company sponsored activities which may require a 1099.
  • Champion general accounting and policy application and process administration for all HR accounts payable to include benefits, general ledger, equity support and revenue recognition (any repayment of benefit or overpayments, receivables/payables, intercompany).
  • Drive accounting compliance, financial and operational internal controls, reconciliation, validation, process simplification, and operational excellence to deliver accurate financial reporting and analysis.

  • Demonstrated ability to function with some autonomy, but focused on execution of activities/provision of advice within an enabling discipline covered by standard functional practices and procedures.
  • Ability to escalate where appropriately required in order to obtain more senior levels of guidance.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to include superior ability to effectively communicate with all levels of internal and external partners to design and coordinate delivery of services rendered.
  • Ability to provide informal guidance to new team members, and explain complex information to others in a way that assures shared understanding.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of accounts payable, tax and general ledger.
  • Understanding of benefit and payroll financial transactions, as well as fringe benefits calculations, and tax implications.
  • Demonstrated ability to gain and maintain technical proficiency in accounting financial modules.
  • Ability to gain and maintain understanding of how work of own team integrates with other teams and contributes to the area.


Required Knowledge & Experience

Education & Work Experience required


  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited university or college and/or equivalent work experience to include 7+ years of demonstrated experience in Finance & Accounting Operations.
  • Demonstrated experience in and prior responsibility for Sarbanes-Oxley financial audit processes, to include assuring compliance, engaging with internal and external audit team members, and gathering/presenting audit evidence.

Health Savings Accounts (HSA) - A pre-tax Health Spending Account (HSA) is offered to those who enroll in the High Deductible Plan. It allows you to pay for many of the health care expenses not covered by your medical plan including deductibles and co-pays. Participation is elected on a calendar year basis and is available to all eligible employees the first of the month following the completion of 30 days of continuous service. Company contribution to HSA ($4500 family, $2500 single plans)

Short-Term Disability - Eligible employees may be entitled to salary continuance during periods of temporary disability. Benefits are based on employee status and years of service.*

Group Life and Long-Term Disability** - Eligible employees may elect life insurance and long-term disability coverage the first of the month following 30 days of continuous service.

Vacation and Paid Holidays - Employees are eligible for vacation upon the completion of six months of employment. In addition, the Company offers eight paid holidays.

Education Assistance - The Company supports employees who wish to continue their education to secure increased responsibility and growth within their professional careers. We offer a reimbursement program for expenses incurred through approved institutions of learning. In addition, Fellow, Life Management Institute (FLMI) and International Claim Association (ICA) program courses are offered after the completion of six months of services at no cost to the employee.

Fitness Reimbursement - Eligible employees are able to receive up to 100% reimbursement for monthly dues (employee only).

Supplemental Plans** - Cancer, Heart/Stroke, Accident.
